Be not Forgetful to Entertain Strangers for thereby some have Entertained
                                                Angels unaware.                                                                                                        Hebrews 13:2

Many times the stories told by ME may or may not be true. But I want you all to know the following story is very true. The names of the people are true and they have been used with everyone's permission. As previously stated I work in a prison.
This is the most horrifying yet beautiful night in my whole career that spans 3 decades. On this night I witnessed a life saved. Everything that could go right went exactly right. To change anything in the whole
Picture by even a few feet or a few seconds the outcome would have been drastically different.

It happened on January 1,2002,I was on the hill making my rounds. We had just had a signal 7 an (extreme emergency) in the segregation unit. Of all the places to have a signal 7 this is the worst because of the restrictions on getting into the unit and the caliber of inmates housed there. These are the worst of the worst so anything is possible. Immediately I called Lt. Granderson on the radio and he responded that he was in route to the Segregation Unit. So I dismissed the Lt. from my mind., Because I knew with his experience he would be able to handle the situation at the Segregation Unit and advise me as to what was needed..
As soon as the signal 7 was secured I turned to talk to two officers and I heard something drop. It sounded like someone had dropped a big watermelon on the concrete. I turned and saw nothing because of a big bush. As I took a couple steps forward I saw the Lt. lying on the sidewalk. As I looked at him I saw death. I called a signal 3000(medical emergency). Immediately Dottie Watts R.N. appeared. She assessed the situation and immediately called for the defibrillator.  Carol Moman R.N. was there at once and preformed C.P.R.
As the deliberator was applied it looked like something in the movies the Lt. Levitated and immediately came back to life, and he knew every one who was around him. What a great sigh of relief we all breathed at this point. We had witnessed a miracle!!!!!!!!!!!!!  All staff  and even inmates who were on the scene knew exactly what to do and did it without hesitation. Every one went into autopilot and preformed as they had been trained.

In mentioning the nurses I in no way mean to take away from the importance of all the other staff and inmates involved. Each one on the scene did a terrific job and was equally important to the outcome. I thank each and every one of you. Once again I can say I am very proud of all of you and consider my self to be a very lucky person to have such great staff.

I considerate it a great honor to work with such great nurses, and staff. On behalf of Lt. Granderson and myself, thank you for choosing corrections as your vocation.

                                                                                 Respectfully,
                                                                                 Captain R.D. Spencer
